Stars and Stripes (USA –11)TeamWellsFargo Built for Dennis Conner’s 1992 America’s Cup Campaign in San Diego. Designed by David Pedrick and built by Eric Goetz. Stars and Stripes carried Dennis to the finals if the 1992 Defender Series in San Diego. She was defeated 4-7 by America 3 and Bill Koch. She also raced in the 1991 and 1994 IACC Worlds. The yacht was then used as a trial horse for Dennis’ 1995 campaign. Later she was purchased by the US Virgin Islands America’s Cup challenge or Team Caribbean which ultimately merged with team Dennis Conner’s. USA 11 was left in the Virgin Islands and survived several hurricanes, sinking at her mooring and ultimately an encounter with a large crane. She was purchased by John Sweeney in 2002 and shipped via dock wise from VI to Miami where she was completely stripped of all gear and sent into a shed at Derecktors to undergo her transformation. A few months later she emerged completely repainted and ready for her truck ride across America to her new home in San Francisco. Her restoration cost upwards of $450,000. USA 11 is a favorite of Cup followers. She is a permanent fixture in the San Francisco Cup Class. She is offered for sale for $250,000 USD to an individual who will keep her in the fleet On the IACC-SF fleet, news from USA 11 who gets painted next week and then on a truck from Florida to San Francisco April 10th. She will be rechristened at the Sausalito Cup May 25 & 26th Sold in 7/2006 to SAIL USA-11, currently for private and public charter use in San Diego. Sailed from Sausalito 8/28 to San Diego, arrived 8/31/06.
